My life in business and marketing began long before the internet. It envelopes the times of fax, newspapers, direct marketing and mail order. I’ve successfully sold just about everything, including cemetery plots, used cars, and gone door to door selling vacuum cleaners.
I have been in the driver’s seat building and growing brick & mortar businesses and digital properties for myself and an array of people and niches. I knew I could
The first step to my entrepreneurial success was to get out of the drab and dreary little town I was living in. This meant I had to sell my house. I was living in a blue collar industrial town where two of the three main industries had shut down. When I called the real estate agent with whom I had used to buy the house a few years prior, he told me it was not likely to sell. The houses that DID sell were on the market for an average of 2.5 years before they sold. He did not give me any reason to feel optimistic. To compound the dismal outlook, he told me that IF my house sold it would be for less than half of what I wanted for it.
Stubbornly, I did not want to believe him.

My History in Business
I have a long history of “side-hustle” direct selling that goes back to early childhood. Knocking on neighbours doors selling cookies, comic books, and myself ~ for odd jobs that is. 😉 In later years I successfully sold just about everything including cemetery plots and vacuum cleaners door to door.
I was tempted by my internal entrepreneurial spirit since childhood but it took a few years to fully embrace it because I just didn’t have the right mindset. I really could not understand how a person could truly amass MILLION$ from sales.
I grew up in a family that counted pennies, kept the bills on the kitchen table, and the old saying “Money doesn’t grow on trees” was recited on a regular basis.
My Dad was a travelling salesman. Out the door Monday morning and home again on Friday evening.
Monday mornings were the same ritual. Dad stood at the door with his hat on and his sales case next to his feet. Mom would have a few 20 dollar bills in her hands and count out Dads weekly allowance. The money had to be enough to pay for motels, food, and gas. She would hand it to Dad and he’d stuff it in his wallet. Then, and after a quick round of family hugs and kisses – out the door he’d go for another week of selling on the road.
The idea of actually being able to move millions of dollars around was unfathomable to me.
Early Lessons
In my early years I did what many do and worked for the “others” even though the desire to start a business, and earn as much as I could, was a big part of my spirit. Even while working as an employee for various companies I would often have a small side business.
I was hooked on the false sense of security I felt when working for someone else. Every paycheque was the same each week and I hated the “
This is how having a small business on the side got started. I wanted to bring in more money and soon it was a frequent occurrence to have a side hustle on the go.
Even though I instinctually felt I could earn more with my own business, I still held on tightly to the false comfort of just making a “living”. It’s hard to turn away from the idea of a steady paycheque and having someone else responsible to pay my dental insurance. To even consider growing a side-business big enough to support me, much less generate millions… was absolutely frightening.
Until…
When Opportunity Knocks
– Open the Damn Door! –
At one time I had a small business as a personal trainer. I found that it was easy to get clients and I enjoyed the training. Soon I added another “side income” offering nutrition and diet counselling. THEN, I saw the potential for even more income by selling small, home use, fitness equipment.
One day, while looking at different types of equipment to buy for my group, I was drawn to one particular piece of equipment. It was new and in a very small niche, but I could see how this tiny niche could be expanded, and the product “idea” could be built upon.

What About COVID?
Just prior to the pandemic I had received a yet another call from a competitor who was whining (again) that I was “stealing” their customers. On more than one occasion they had called, very upset, telling me that they felt I should just “let them” keep their customers. That somehow I wasn’t being “fair”.
AND THEN…
Everything was ticking along just great, and then COVID-19 hit. The world shut down, people were confined to their homes, and lo and behold, my product was in the right place at the right time. ~ My April sales were almost as much as the entire previous year.
People were stuck at home and needed fitness equipment, and I was happy to help!
After the unanticipated April boon I was left low on inventory. Fortunately, also using the Vortex Method, I had advanced knowledge of the impending parts and supply-chain interruption teetering on the horizon. After a brief consideration I decided it was a good time to take advantage of my competitors crying and complaining and struck a deal. The terms are proprietary but I can tell you that it was “dance in circles” decision for me.
During the process of finalizing the details, I noticed all the news outlets touting negative hoopla surrounding the $BILLIONS in profits made by Amazon during this crisis.
